Every format below is free and needs no account. The files are editable and start from the same lines as the online maker.
The .docx file, opened in Google Docs for layout and text. Google Docs tables do not calculate.
General service invoice
One line per service or deliverable, plus tax, amount paid and balance due. Works for most service businesses.
Itemized invoice with category subtotals
Each line has a category (for example Labor, Materials, Expenses). The invoice shows a subtotal per category before tax.
Hourly time billing
Hours x rate per task or week, with decimal hours (for example 2.5) and approved extra hours on their own line.
How to use the Google Docs version
- Download the .docx.
- In Google Drive choose New > File upload, open the file, then choose File > Save as Google Docs.
- Replace the placeholders. The Word formulas become fixed numbers in Docs, so type each amount and the totals yourself.
- Send the client a PDF (File > Download > PDF document), not an edit link.
If you want totals calculated, use the Google Sheets version or the online maker instead.

Fill in your Google Docs invoice
Edit any line, set your tax rate (0% is fine) and download a PDF. Line amounts, tax and the balance due calculate as you type. Version: General service invoice.
Tax starts at 0%. Enter the rate that applies to you, or leave it at 0 if you do not charge sales tax or VAT.
For example a deposit. The PDF then shows the balance due.
- Nothing is saved on our side. Download the PDF before you leave the page.
- Amounts print with a $ sign. If you bill in another currency, say so in the notes.
- Prefer to edit offline? Download this starting point as Excel (.xlsx) or Word (.docx).

Free .docx to import
Download the Word file and upload it to your own Google Drive (New > File upload), then choose File > Save as Google Docs.
Your own private copy
We do not share a Doc from our Drive. The file you import is yours, so client details never sit in someone else's account.
Totals you type yourself
Google Docs tables do not calculate, and the Word formulas become fixed numbers on import. Type each amount and the totals, or use the Sheets version.
Make-a-copy workflow
Keep one master Doc and use File > Make a copy for each new invoice, so the master never holds a client's details.
Send a PDF, not a link
Download with File > Download > PDF document and attach the PDF. An edit link lets anyone with access change the amounts.
Version history
File > Version history shows who changed what, which helps if an invoice is questioned later.
