- Project Handoff Checklist for Agencies
Project Handoff Checklist
Ensure smooth project handoffs to clients. Cover credentials, documentation, training, and formal closure.
Frequently Asked Questions
When should we start the handoff process?
Begin compiling deliverables and documentation 1–2 weeks before planned completion. Final handoff meeting and closure after client confirms satisfaction.
What if the client wants ongoing support?
Define support scope and pricing separately. Handoff is for project closure; support is a new engagement with its own agreement.
How do we handle credential security?
Use a password manager with secure sharing, or encrypted document. Instruct client to change passwords immediately. Never send plain text in email.
What goes in the handoff document?
Links to all deliverables, list of accounts with login info (or "client to set password"), maintenance notes, support period, and key contacts. Keep it concise and scannable.
Should we remove ourselves from client accounts after handoff?
After transfer and client confirmation, remove admin access where appropriate. Retain read-only or backup access only if agreed for support period.
